Halloween in the Lemondrop

We went on an adventure to the Eastern Shore to camp this past weekend.  A campground that boasts of being "Scary" the weekends of Oct.  Many camping friends I know go to this place often.  That being said, it is not on my top 10 places to camp.  Mainly because they had some crazy rules that just seemed unnecessary.  We had friends that visited on Sat who opted to buy a primitive tent site as it was cheaper than what was being charged to visit per person.  They have a "prompt" 11am check out.  As we pulled through the gate rearview mirror tags were collected and the local sheriff stood on duty (I guess to make sure everyone left on time?!).  That's not exactly what gives me warm fuzzes.

All of that said, we still had a great time.  Any time camping in my Lil' Lemondrop is a great time.  I did realize on this trip that it might be the last we take in my tiny trailer.  The new girl will be ready by next season I think.  With the kids growing every year (funny how that happens) and with my Mr now coming along, it's getting tight in that 8' space.  She will always be my first love though, and I am keeping her around for girl trips that I hope to start going on.

Views from the ride.

My Lemondrop in her halloween disguise.

I love everything about the inside of my trailer.  It just makes me happy!

Outdoor movie night the first night.

Chili in the crockpot for the cook off we had with our friends.

Packing up to head home.  Always feels like it takes twice as long to put her away.

The amount of laundry we can make on a short weekend trip is mind boggling.  I will be washing clothes and bedding for days.

The wind was brutal on the water, even set back a bit it constantly blew.  We are all wind burned and chapped.  My awning did great as always (Awnings by Marti if you are looking for one).  I had so many people stop and ask about her.  I always love that.  A few asked for a tour and I was more than happy to show them.  I'm proud of this project my dad and I did.  There is a lot of love in that tiny space.

The Beginnings of a Plan

I have BIG plans for my new 1969 trailer.  We towed her home this past week.  I spent the afternoon getting things cleaned out and bleached.  Then I took a step back and thought about how I wanted this new trailer to look.  Right away I realized my dad is going to have to rebuild the front and back walls due to water damage.  At some point a previous owner took out one of the front windows to hold an AC unit, that will need to be replaced.  I recently read someones take on their vintage trailer redo and I love how they put it,  to paraphrase it "We are not trying for a restoration, too much time and money for that, but we want to keep as much retro charm  as we can."  I couldn't have said it better myself.  I took a trip to Lowes this week and found a lot of the things I want to replace and upgrade my trailer with.  Just like with my Lil' Lemondrop,  I am leaning towards that seaside cottage look with a little more sparkle here and there.  I am working with a coral/orange oven and hood so that right there is going to pack a lot of punch in the color department.  I will be replacing the sink with a stainless steel option. With that being said here are the before photos of my yet to be named trailer. (hey Kerrie from seacottage, do you have any name ideas?!)

Back wall light close up.  I think I will be changing this out.

This is the view to the back, bunk up, couch in place.  I think I am going to make that a permanent bed with a real mattress.  We will put extra pillows on it and call it a daybed during the day ;)

From the back couch bench looking to the front.

The orange appliances in all their glory.  The backsplash will be tin, the countertop will also be changed.

The front light fixture and original gas lamp. (I am thinking a cute little chandelier right there would be supper cute.)
The shower room.  The selling feature of the camper.  Needs a new toilet.  Not sure If I will keep the corner basin either.  Don't see us brushing our teeth that close to where we use the potty.

An "upgrade"as my youngest would call it,  this was a birds nest that was behind the fridge.

And just for fun, a comparison of the two.  Seems crazy that this new trailer is only 4' longer than my Lil' Lemondrop.

April Camp Out

Another successful April camp out!  I took a few photos but not like I thought I was gonna.  So instead I "stole" some photos from a good friend and fellow April camp out camper.

This is by far my favorite camp out of the year.  The laughing and fun is beyond description.  Can't wait for next time!!!

Building an Idea Board

Well I did it.  I bought the Globestar.  It needs some work and a little elbow grease but I am getting the vision in my head of what it can be.  I love a new project like this.  I had such a great time doing my Lemondrop with my dad that I am excited to dive into this one.

I am scouring pinterest for ideas and inspiration.  Color schemes, exterior paint ideas.  I love this stuff!

We head out this week for our annual crazy big April camp out!!  I have the Lil' Lemondrop in the drive making her shine.  I am hoping to get a photo shoot in of her this weekend.  Check back next week for those.

Looking Forward to Camp Season 2013

*Camp season 2010

It's that time of year again, I'm looking ahead to the coming camping season.  Although I continue to be on the hunt for a slightly larger, self contained, vintage trailer I still love my Lil' Lemondrop.  I have contacted an awning maker about the possibility of making an add a room for the existing awning.  Although I think the current one might be too short since I bought it pre-made.  I am looking into the possibility of purchasing a new awning to go with the new add a room.  I love my blue white and yellow I have now, but think the new one might be black and white instead.  Just ideas I'm kicking around to help with the growing bodies that camp with me!

Also looking forward to using the AC system I built with my dad.  I also have some touch up painting that needs to be done.  When you have a vintage trailer there is always something that can be fixed or repaired.  My wings are split from the insane heat we experience here on the southeast coast.  Another thing to add to the "to do" list.

Happy Campers

A fun little weekend.  The rain Saturday and today wasn't ideal.  Sunday was beautiful.  My kids had a blast.  The family time was needed.

Spent Friday getting her all shinny.

All set up.

I was walking back from the bath house and this site of my tiny Lemondrop next to all these beasts made me giggle.
 My kids are awesome kayakers.

Even the smallest guy was skilled!

I mean it's pretty hard to beat this view.

Bain and Piper enjoying the water too.

Friends came for a little visit.

A found string, bobber, hook, worm and patience payed off.

All closed up and ready to leave.  Our truck is bigger than the trailer.

A Camping We Will Go......

After a busy morning/afternoon of soccer.  We are heading out for a two night camping trip.  The Lemondrop has not been used enough this year.  I hope to remedy that over the next month or so.  Homeschooling should allow us the flexibility right?!

And just so you know how serious we are about soccer here are some shots of them in action.
 Keegan making his opponent work.

Avery leaping over the boy 3 years older than her to stay on the ball.

And Tripp (#1).......he adds chaos and confusion to the players....hehehe I love that boy.

.....and just so you know, I jest about the seriousness of our soccer playing.  I just insist that they do something.  I think a being part of team is an awesome life lesson.

The Lemondrop has AC

My parents came for a week long visit over the 4th.  It was a treat!  While here my dad tackled my need for an AC unit in the Lil' Lemondrop.

 (4th of July photo)

This is what we came up with.  It is totally removable so it doesn't mess with the integrity of my vintage camper.  The box, stand, and AC unit will come off when traveling or if it is cool enough in the year to not need it.  Once at the site all quickly and easily goes up.

The results were that of a walk in freezer once on.  I am going to spice up the inside of the box when I get a chance.  My dad and I are a great team!  Now there is no weather that scares us when we take the tiny trailer out!

One of My Favorite Weekends

The Lemondrop in the woods.  She was the cutest trailer there!

Making s'mores with the boys. (the undies on the line weren't ours)

My sneaks got soaked showering the boys, so I had to resort to flip flops with socks.  Not so glamorous I know!

My famous traveling gnome.  I take a picture of him every time.

And of course my 3 favorite kids in the whole world.  And 2 dogs that are ok ;)  These are my constant companions and glamping buddies.  The Lord truly blessed me!!!
